A post by Vikram Chopra, founder and CEO of Cars24, on International Women’s Day has drawn attention online about the presence of women in corporate leadership roles.
In an X post, Chopra shared internal data showing that Car24 has 6,803 employees in India, but only 951 are women, about 14% of the workforce. He said that the gap is even wider in senior roles. “At Director level (B6): zero women. Not low. Zero,” he wrote, adding that there are no women at the Director level.
Chopra said that while the company hire women and entry-level representation is better, the organisation seems to lose many between mid-management and senior leadership. He said this suggests a deeper structural problem rather than just a hiring issue.
“Culture is not what you say on your careers page. Culture is who grows here. Culture is who gets promoted. Culture is who stays,” he wrote.
The CEO said the absence of women at the director level pushed him to reflect on whether the company had unknowingly built structures that limit women’s growth into leadership positions.

Chopra said he does not have a clean answer and wants to hear from senior women leaders from across industries. He invited women working in tech, operations and product roles to share what would encourage them to join a company like Cars24 and what changes could improve hiring, retention and promotions.
Chopra said he plans to organise small roundtable discussions with women leaders in the coming weeks to better understand the issue. “Talented women shouldn’t just join Cars24; they should rise here. This one is on me,” he wrote.
The post soon attracted reactions online, with many users sharing their opinions on workplace culture and hiring practices.
One user shared, “Enabling infrastructure - mindset change takes time, but infrastructure & facilities support helps—parental leave, which encourages fathers to take leave. Daycare facilities for children up to 12 within or near premises open till late evening. And most important sponsors.”
Another user wrote, “If you really want to bring change, start creating part-time roles for women in top management.”
