Cars24 acquires CarInfo to expand into vehicle information and ownership management

The acquisition brings a widely used compliance and vehicle-management product into Cars24’s fold, strengthening its bid to build an end-to-end automotive platform.

Cars24 acquires CarInfo to expand into vehicle information and ownership management

Used car marketplace Cars24 has acquired vehicle information platform CarInfo, as the company looks to deepen its presence beyond vehicle transactions and move into everyday vehicle ownership and compliance management.

Announcing the acquisition, Vikram Chopra, founder and chief executive officer of Cars24, said fragmented and hard-to-access vehicle data remains a persistent pain point for Indian vehicle owners.

“Vehicle management for cars and bikes has remained complex as information is scattered across systems,” Chopra said. “CarInfo was built around a very practical insight — making vehicle information instantly accessible while reducing cognitive load, so owners could get what they need easily.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. CarInfo will continue to operate as a standalone app with its existing team, Chopra said. BikeInfo operates as part of the CarInfo platform.

Founded to simplify access to vehicle-related information, CarInfo allows users to view registration details, insurance status, pollution certificates (PUCC), challans, FASTag information and key documents in one place. According to Chopra, the platform now serves more than 12 million users every month, built steadily over time rather than through rapid expansion.

“This is not the story of an overnight success but a team that has played the long game,” Chopra said, adding that CarInfo has become a commonly used utility for managing cars and bikes.

How does CarInfo fit into Cars24’s broader strategy?

Cars24 began as an auction-led marketplace helping individual car owners sell vehicles to dealers, and has since expanded into used car buying, inspections, RC transfers, financing and related services. In recent years, the company has increasingly repositioned itself as a broader automotive platform spanning multiple stages of the vehicle lifecycle.

In April 2025, Cars24 acquired automotive community forum Team-BHP, marking a strategic move into content and community-led engagement. Team-BHP, known for its strict moderation and non-commercial stance, was retained as an independent platform, with Cars24 backing its technology and long-term growth.

The CarInfo acquisition builds on that approach, extending Cars24’s footprint from transactions and content into high-frequency ownership use cases such as compliance, renewals and documentation — areas where users interact far more regularly.

MediaNama was the first to report the development.

Why is Cars24 pushing into new cars as well?

The deal also comes as Cars24 has entered the new car market, offering discovery, comparisons and assisted buying services. While new car sales typically carry lower margins than used vehicles, the segment allows platforms to engage customers earlier in their ownership journey.

By combining new car discovery, used car transactions and ownership utilities such as CarInfo, Cars24 is positioning itself as a single destination for Indian vehicle owners — from purchase and paperwork to ongoing management and eventual resale.

With CarInfo now part of its portfolio, Cars24 is betting that simplifying routine ownership pain points — rather than just facilitating a sale — can help anchor users to its platform over the long term, as competition in India’s auto-tech market continues to intensify.
