Abu Dhabi’s instruction to hotels to let guests extend their stays for free— with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) footing the bill—is being widely praised on X, where users framed the step as a rare, people‑first response amid regional flight chaos.

Sharing a copy of the directive on X, founder and fund manager at Helios Capital, Samir Arora, said he was amazed by the gesture. Arora said he is currently in Dubai.

The directive was conveyed in an official circular dated February 28.

What the order says

DCT Abu Dhabi’s circular to hotel general managers ordered properties to extend stays for guests unable to depart “for reasons beyond their control,” with all additional room costs to be invoiced to the department.

The move follows a turbulent weekend in which the UAE intercepted multiple incoming threats, with debris reported in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and airspaces closed.

How social media reacted

X users contrasted Abu Dhabi’s policy with surge pricing seen elsewhere during crises. One reaction read: “Had it been any other place, they would have tripled the prices in such emergencies.” Another said: “This is absolutely a warm gesture from Emirate of Abu Dhabi.” Others called it “true example for a tourist destination” and “Great to see humans being treated humanly… Never saw anything like this in India.” A resident added: “That’s why everyone who lives here, loves UAE.” (User posts on X)

An extended thread from another X user, watching from Australia, said the UAE was “stepping up… during intense regional chaos,” arguing that “covering hotels, meals, and rebookings for ~20k stranded passengers isn’t just smart brand protection… it’s putting people first.” The user contrasted Abu Dhabi/Dubai’s approach with places where travellers are “left with vague vouchers or endless hold music,” calling it “real hospitality leadership” and a reminder of Dubai’s resilience as a global transit hub.
