Maggots rain down on Delta passengers from overhead bin

A Delta flight from Europe to the United States was forced to turn around after maggots rained down on passengers from the overhead bin.

According to a report in The Independent, passengers on the Delta Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on February 13 were shocked when maggots fell down on them mid-air. The bugs had reportedly infested rotting fish that a passenger had stored in their carry-on luggage, which was placed on the overhead bin.

A passenger named Kelce who was on the flight tweeted about the incident. “Really lovely to be 2 hours into an 8 hour @Delta to amsterdam and find out there is rotten fish and maggots hitching a ride with us,” read the now-deleted post.

Kelce told Daily Mail that airline staff identified the owner of the bag containing the rotting fish and the maggots. The owner was asked to stay back while everyone else was asked to leave the plane once it landed in Amsterdam, exactly where it had started off.

The suitcase, meanwhile, was placed in a bag to be burned.

Another passenger who was on the flight shared their experience on Reddit. “My family and I were in the row directly in front of the maggots. The lady right behind us told the flight attendants the maggots were falling on her head. Ugh. I turned around and they were wiggling around on the seat,” the passenger wrote, adding that the rotting fish had been wrapped in newspaper. The Reddit user described the whole thing as “absolutely gross.”
