A fresh wave of concern has hit Bollywood after actor Ranveer Singh was allegedly targeted in an extortion bid linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to sources, a key operative of the gang, identified as Harry Boxer, attempted to extort Rs 10 crore from the actor through a threatening voice note sent from a United States-based phone number.

The message was reportedly delivered via WhatsApp to Ranveer Singh’s manager. While no formal case has been registered so far in connection with the threat, Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has begun preliminary inquiries. Sources indicate that authorities have reached out to US officials to trace and gather further details about the number used to send the voice note.

The development comes shortly after a firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence earlier this month. Five shots were fired outside his home, and three accused — Deepak Sharma, Sonu Kumar and Sunny Kumar — were later arrested. Police sources revealed that the trio had allegedly been promised Rs 3 lakh for the attack, with Rs 50,000 paid in advance. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the incident.

Investigators have also linked gang member Shubham Lonkar to the firing. Lonkar is reportedly wanted in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddiqui in October 2024. He has also been associated with a separate firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.

Police earlier disclosed that a country-made yet sophisticated firearm was used in the attack on Rohit Shetty’s home. At least five high-velocity 7.62 mm bullets were recovered from the scene. Such ammunition is considered particularly lethal due to its speed and destructive impact.

Following the firing, a social media account allegedly linked to Lonkar posted a chilling warning. The message described the incident as merely a “trailer” and threatened that future attacks could be carried out inside a target’s residence. The post also warned members of the film industry, suggesting consequences similar to or worse than that faced by Baba Siddiqui.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, operating from within a high-security prison in Gujarat, has been linked to multiple cases involving murder, extortion, and illegal arms trafficking. The gang has also drawn international attention, particularly in Canada, where authorities have designated it as a terrorist organisation. The alleged involvement of its network in cross-border activities has heightened concerns about its growing reach and influence.
