In a horrific turn of events, a lift malfunctioned and crashed through the roof of the building’s top floor at Noida’s Paras Tierea society in Sector 137. The incident happened on Sunday after the elevator malfunctioned in Tower 5, according to reports. This shocking mishap comes in the wake of a similar tragedy, when an elderly woman died in a lift crash at the same housing complex.

The lift was carrying three people when the incident took place. As per sources, the malfunction happened when the lift was on the fourth floor of the tower and the occupants were exiting. All of a sudden, the brakes failed and it started ascending. The elevator reached straight to the 25th floor and smashed against the roof. The three people have sustained injuries, according to residents and the two lifts in the tower have now been closed.

The incident happened due to a technical fault and probe is on, as per the police. They also mentioned that the occupants were taken out safely and action will be taken against the culprits. However, the residents have alleged that a lack of maintenance was the reason behind the accident.

“We will demand an investigation into this entire incident from the architects and builders. The safety of the residents is our first priority. We will take all necessary steps so that such incidents do not happen in future,” the Apartment Owners Association of Paras Tierea Society said, according to NDTV.

Meanwhile, there have been several reports of lift malfunctioning in Noida societies. Last August, an elderly woman died in a lift crash in the same housing complex after the cable snapped and led to a free fall between floors. As per reports, the woman died of a possible heart attack.

A string of lift malfunctions in Noida over the past year even prompted the Uttar Pradesh government to pass a law for the proper maintenance and upkeep of lifts. The state Legislative Assembly passed the Uttar Pradesh Lift and Escalator Bill in February that makes registration mandatory for the installation of lifts and escalators.
