The long-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar is just days away from receiving its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Once operational, it will significantly ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and transform air travel across Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh.

During a review visit on November 27, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was informed that the airport is on track for an expected inauguration around December 15. This was his second visit in three weeks, underlining the state’s urgency to operationalise the country’s newest mega aviation hub.

Final DGCA Approval in Sight

Airport officials confirmed that DGCA licensing is now in its final stages. A two-day inspection by a BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) team assessed all major security systems, including:

  • Passenger and baggage screening.
  • 3D radar installations.
  • CCTV and perimeter surveillance.
  • Anti-hijacking and bomb-disposal infrastructure.
  • Access-controlled entry points.

According to Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the airport cleared all checks, and BCAS has prepared its final compliance report—an essential step before DGCA issues the aerodrome licence.

Phase 1 Construction Fully Complete

Authorities have confirmed that all infrastructure under Phase I, spread across 1,334 hectares, is now complete. This includes:

  • A 3,900-metre runway ready for commercial operations.
  • A world-class terminal designed with energy-efficient architecture.
  • Taxiways and advanced firefighting facilities.
  • Dedicated security zones.
  • Multi-level parking structures.

A multi-modal transport hub linking the airport to major expressways and future metro connections.

The airport has successfully conducted key technical trials, including baggage handling tests, security drills, and boarding simulations.

What Happens After Licensing?

Once DGCA grants the aerodrome licence, the Noida International Airport will start with:

Domestic passenger flights.

Cargo operations, expected to boost regional logistics.

International flights, retail spaces, and expanded commercial services will roll out in future phases as capacity grows.

A Major Boost for Connectivity and Development

The new mega airport is expected to:

  • Ease heavy traffic at Delhi’s IGI Airport.
  • Enhance connectivity across NCR, Western UP, and neighbouring states.
  • Attract large-scale investment in aviation, logistics, hospitality, and real estate.
  • Generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

With its modern infrastructure and strategic location, the Noida International Airport is set to become a game-changing aviation gateway, reshaping passenger movement and regional economic growth.
