The Infosys and TCS campus at Indore campus has been on high alert after a leopard was spotted leaping into their premises on Tuesday. Forest department officials confirmed the big cat's presence based on pugmarks and have installed cameras and a cage to capture it, the Times of India reported.

The incident came to light after a few passersby out for a morning walk saw a leopard leaping into the Infosys campus on Super Corridor. They informed the security guards and the forest department was also alerted, district forest officer Mahendra Singh Solanki told the publication.

"During the search operation, the team has found pugmarks of the leopard that confirmed its presence in the area," he said. TCS and Infosys have their campus spread over 230 acres of land that has dense foliage making it a suitable place for the leopard to hide.

The forest department has also asked employees of TCS and Infosys to stay inside the buildings and not to stay in the open areas unnecessarily. "We have asked the staff not to go towards the dense plantation inside the campus, where the presence of the leopard has been confirmed by its pugmarks. Besides, morning and evening walkers have been asked to stay alert, carry lathi and torch, and avoid going near the bushes," Solanki said.

He added that after a day-long search, the forest department has installed trap cameras and a cage at a strategic location to catch the animal.

"The population of leopards has increased multifold compared to the tigers and lions as there are many reasons for it, including strict actions on their poaching, their good survival rate and dependency on small prey and skills to adjust in any weather and conditions," Solanki told the Times of India. "Infighting for territory due to increasing their population, along with deforestation and increasing number of farmhouses, residential and other projects in the jungle can be blamed for reporting a rise in such incidents of leopards entering human habitat in the recent past."
