A Delhi resident shared how Blinkit’s in-app ambulance service provided rapid medical help during a critical emergency at his home, helping stabilise his grandmother before she was taken to hospital.
The incident shared in a LinkedIn post by Shivam Kukreja, who said his grandmother collapsed at home around 8 am earlier this week. She was unresponsive at the time, although her heartbeat was still present. The sudden medical emergency left the family distressed and unsure of how quickly help would arrive.
Kukreja said the family immediately dialed the emergency helpline number, 112. However, the ambulance took time to reach their home. As the delay continued, the family began looking for alternative options. “We were confused and terrified,” he wrote.
He then recalled seeing an ambulance option on Blinkit, the quick-commerce platform owned by Zomato, and decided to try it. According to Kukreja, the app showed an estimated arrival time of six minutes.
He revealed, “Within 1 minute, I got a confirmation call from Blinkit. Within another 4 minutes, an ambulance arrived at our doorstep with two nurses. They quickly checked her vitals, BP, sugar levels and found that her blood sugar had dropped to 40.”
Kukreja said that within about 10 minutes, his grandmother regained consciousness. She was later transported to a hospital for further medical care and observation. Kukreja noted that the prompt response helped prevent the situation from worsening.
After the situation stabilised, Kukreja said he assumed the service would involve a fee, as it had been arranged through a private platform. He explained, “When everything stabilized, I asked them how much I owed, assuming this was a paid service. Their response genuinely surprised me: ‘This is Blinkit’s trust. We do this for free.’ I even tried to offer them a tip. They politely refused.”
Reflecting on the experience, Kukreja referred to the wider debate around fast delivery models used by quick-commerce platforms. He expressed, “With all the debate and criticism around ‘10-minute deliveries,’ experiences like this remind us of the real impact technology and private companies can have when used responsibly.”
The post drew several responses online, with users discussing the importance of speed in medical emergencies and the role of technology in improving response times.
One user commented, “In moments like these, speed and intent matter more than anything and this shows how technology, when built with the right purpose can literally save lives. Glad your grandmother is safe. Big respect to the Blinkit team behind this initiative. Thanks Deepinder Goyal.”
Another user wrote, “Blinkit’s ambulance feature in itself reflects a larger gap in public service delivery, where private companies are stepping in to solve problems that ideally should be handled efficiently by government systems, with clear accountability and execution.”
