And while alcohol can temporarily decrease eye pressure, drinking excessively is detrimental to eye health. This knowledge can assist people in adopting healthier habits to protect their eyes in the long run.

This fluid, known as aqueous humor, is important when it comes to maintaining the shape of the eye and providing nutrients to vital structures. The body tends to maintain a balance between fluid production and drainage. Unfortunately, when the balance is disturbed, eye pressure can increase and damage the optic nerve. Over time, this can lead to glaucoma, which causes vision loss if not managed at the right time.

Also, if you are using prescribed eye drops for glaucoma, be aware that alcohol can sometimes interact with medications or make you more likely to forget a dose.
Those with a family history of glaucoma, high eye pressure, or high blood pressure should be more cautious with caffeine and alcohol intake. Avoid too much caffeine and alcohol. Go for timely eye check-ups with the doctor.
Higher caffeine and alcohol consumption can lead to increased eye pressure and eye problems. Caffeine and alcohol in moderate amounts can be safe. Having alcohol once every six months is okay. Caffeine in the form of coffee can be limited to 1-2 small cups per day.
