Strawberries are celebrated for their colour, sweetness and the tangy feel and fragrance that light up summer. Apart from its taste and various uses, the fruit also brings along several health benefits.

Researchers now say that strawberries may do far more than simply please the tastebuds. Packed with vitamins, minerals and plant compounds, the fruit is increasingly being studied for its possible role in protecting our health.

Across nutrition studies, scientists are examining how strawberries, particularly their natural polyphenols, interact with the body. These compounds, according to the National Institutes of Health, were once known mainly for their antioxidant qualities, and are now being linked to wider biological effects.

According to a study in Science Direct, eating strawberries may help the brain and heart because of their nutrients and antioxidants. During the study researchers gave 35 older adults 26 grams of freeze-dried strawberry powder daily and measured memory, thinking speed, and heart health.

Participants who ate strawberries showed faster thinking and lower blood pressure. Waist size decreased, and antioxidant levels rose, while control participants had higher triglycerides. It shows that small daily changes in diet could improve health in older adults.
