An Infosys techie was found dead inside a hotel in Pune in the early hours of Sunday morning with police officials claiming that she was shot dead after finding a gunshot wound to her head, an Indian Express report said.
Local police said that the woman, identified as Vandana Dwivedi, was found dead in a hotel in the Laxmi Nagar area of the city and have arrested a man named Rishabh Nigam, who is suspected to have murdered her. Initial investigations indicated that the woman had come to the hotel with Nigam on Saturday evening.
"Initial probe suggests that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship and there was an ongoing dispute between them. The suspect, identified as Rishabh Nigam, is believed to have murdered her by shooting her in the head. He had fled after the incident," a senior police officer said.
"The hotel room booking was done in the name of Vandana and Rishabh. So he is our prime suspect. Further probe is on," another police official told NDTV.
Nigam's involvement in the case came under the scanner after closed circuit camera footage from the hotel showed him exiting the room late at night. Police authorities said that after getting more information, they began a manhunt and eventually caught Nigam, who was fleeing to Mumbai.
"After receiving information, we launched a manhunt and the suspect who was trying to flee to Mumbai was intercepted and placed under detention. Further probe is on," officials said.
