After Pakistan’s recent loss to India, a light-hearted Instagram reel featuring two UK-based roommates — Indian vocalist Yusuf Sulemani and Pakistani trainee aircraft engineer Ali Raza — has gone viral. In the video, Raza is seen making rotis in the kitchen when Sulemani strolls in wearing a t-shirt resembling a Pakistani jersey and jokingly teases him about Pakistan’s performance.

"Sahibzada Farhan," Sulemani says before breaking into peals of laughter. He was referring to the Pakistani batsman who was dismissed for a duck.

Annoyed but amused, Raza shoos him away and turns to the camera, saying, “Do you guys see? This is the problem of living with an Indian after Pakistan loses a match to India.”

On Sunday, India made an emphatic 61-run win against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. And shared hours after the match, the Instagram reel has picked up close to two lakh likes, with viewers praising the duo for their non-toxic humour and genuine camaraderie.

Viewers say, 'It’s all politics'

Many users appreciated the warmth between the two, calling it a refreshing contrast to the heated India–Pakistan cricket rivalry.

One user wrote, “This is the biggest example of ‘It’s all just politics… or else we all could have lived together even today.’” Another added, “Love from India. Happy to see you guys together. If the politics and extremists on both sides stepped aside, things would be different.”

Several non-resident Indians (NRIs) also chimed in with their own stories of India–Pakistan friendships abroad. One recounted how his Pakistani neighbours teased him before the match — and after India won, he visited them jokingly, asked for tea, and the families shared a long laugh. Another viewer noted that friendly teasing is common, adding, “My Indian friends also laughed and made fun like this. But what to do if the team itself is like this?”

Softening rivalry through everyday moments

While India–Pakistan cricket encounters are known for tension, the video reflects how diasporic communities often engage with each other through humour rather than hostility.
