One of the most talked about news stories of 2023 was the proposed fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg and reports had emerged that the altercation would take place in Italy, inside a cage, and would be live streamed on Meta and X (formerly Twitter).
However, that fight never materialised and a few days after the streaming announcement, Zuckeberg said it was "time to move on" from speculation that he would fight Musk in a cage match.
"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously," Zuckerberg had posted on Threads.
More than six months after the fight seemed like a closed chapter, Musk issued a fresh challenge on Wednesday, when he replied to a user on X (formerly Twitter) and said he was ready to fight Zuckerberg anywhere and anytime with any rules in place.
I’m ready to fight Zuck anywhere, anytime with any rules. LFG!!!— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 5, 2024
"The colosseum and tickets paid in dogecoin would be epic!" one user wrote.
"Zuck already won Elon. Look at $Meta stock compared to $Tsla. He not only one, he put you in an X induced coma," another user wrote.
"Anyone encouraging this should be added to the list of: “people who don’t have your back and want to watch you be a spectacle for their own amusement," a third user wrote.
The public rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg had intensified after the initial success of Meta's Threads social media platforms in July.
The former spoke about the possibilities of a fight between him and Zuckerberg for many weeks and posted that he would get an MRI of his neck and upper back, which may have needed surgery.
