BJP today dared the UPA allies to withdraw their support from the ruling alliance rather than just making public statements against the policies of the Congress-led government.

"If they (allies) are supporting the UPA government and if the government is not listening to them, for the people of the country and for the nation it would be the rightful thing to withdraw their support," BJP's spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.Reacting to threats of withdrawal of support by the DMK chief M Karunanidhi, Rudy said "it would be the most welcome step". The main opposition party also held the UPA allies equally responsible for the price rise, saying the allies were very much part of the government."We cannot deny that UPA alliance partners are equally responsible for the price rise as the UPA government headed by the Congress is...They (allies) should not run away from that. They have to take that onus that they are equally responsible for price rise, as part of supporting ally of the UPA government," Rudy said.Referring to Mamata Banerjee's protest against petrol price hike in West Bengal and Karunanidhi's protest in Tamil Nadu, he said there was no point in doing so."I feel the DMK's statement (of withdrawing support) should come into effect, so that people know that someone thinks about them also." "If he (Karunanidhi) thinks that there is a deliberate action by the Union Government to take such action which are anti-people, it (withdrawing) would be the most welcome step," he said.
