Bengaluru Police recovered the lost mobile phone of a student within minutes.

In a swift demonstration of Bengaluru City Police’s emergency response mechanism, Viveknagar police recovered a student’s lost iPhone within minutes after she raised an alert through the Namma 112 helpline, officials said on Thursday.

According to cops, the incident took place around 12.54 pm on January 7, when a student of St Joseph’s College realised she had lost her iPhone. She immediately used her friend’s mobile phone to contact Namma 112 and report the loss. With the help of GPS technology, the police traced the phone’s location and alerted the nearest patrol unit.

ASI Venkatesh and Head Constable Rajasekhar, who were on duty in the Hoysala-14 patrol vehicle, rushed to the spot and reached within eight minutes. After conducting a search, the police traced the person in possession of the phone, seized the device and safely returned it to the student.

Officials said the recovery was made possible due to real-time coordination between the Namma 112 emergency response team, the Command Centre and on-ground patrol units.

In a similar incident earlier, Bengaluru Police had recovered a pair of AirPods Pro within 20 minutes of a complaint being filed after they were allegedly stolen from a woman’s house in the city. The complainant had accused one of the men who visited her home to fix furniture of stealing the device. The AirPods were traced and recovered by personnel from the Madiwala police station, an effort that was widely appreciated by the complainant.

Officials reiterated that under the Bengaluru City Police Safe City Project, the Command Centre operates round the clock to ensure the safety and security of residents. Every distress call received through Namma 112 is monitored, assessed and acted upon without delay, they said.

The police urged citizens to immediately contact Namma 112 in case of emergencies or distress situations, noting that timely information significantly improves response time and outcomes.
