'NOT okay': Magniflex MD slams Bengaluru airport for using same trays for shoes, personal items

Responding to the complaint, a representative of Bengaluru Airport wrote on X, 'Hello Anand Nichani, hygiene and passenger experience are top priorities for us, thus, we've positioned dedicated shoe trays adjacent to all of the X-rays for ease.' But, the senior executive said he saw flyers using the same trays for shoes and personal items.

A senior executive in Bengaluru has flagged an "unsanitary practice" being carried out at Bengaluru airport. Anand Nichani, the managing director of Magniflex India, slammed the airport authorities for making passengers at the security check-in use the same trays to keep their shoes and personal items such as phones and laptops scanned.

Nichani, who was flying from Bengaluru to Delhi on Monday, wrote, "The same trays that carry our muddy shoes are used for our personal items at airport security! This is NOT okay! Bengaluru airport, it's time to make dedicated trays for shoes MANDATORY for a cleaner & more pleasant experience for everyone!"

"Implementing the use of dedicated shoe trays must become a mandatory practice at BIAL (Bengaluru International Airport Limited) to uphold the highest hygiene standards and ensure the comfort of all travelers," he added, urging the government to take action by establishing regulations that make this practice compulsory across all airport facilities.

Responding to his post, a representative of Bengaluru Airport wrote, "Hello Anand Nichani, hygiene and passenger experience are top priorities for us, thus, we've positioned dedicated shoe trays adjacent to all of the X-rays for ease."

The senior executive, however, said that he saw flyers using the same trays for shoes and personal items. "I didn't find any shoe tray stack near my security belt!! Why isn't this mandatory?" Nichani replied.

His post found favour among X users who too called for more hygienic practices at the airport.

"Valid point. If you have it why do security personnel at the security checks can't make it mandatory for everyone of us? If I forgot to put the phone in my bag I would have to redo my security check from step 1. Hygiene is essential," commented Sridevi (@sridu_n). Another X user Ajith Samuel (@AjiththeSamuel) said, "Seniors need extra care, especially when traveling. Let's ensure a cleaner experience at BIAL with trays for shoes mandatory!"
