India’s history has seen many famous battles, remembered in textbooks for their impact on the nation. But not all battles are fought on open fields; some happen on busy streets, catching public attention in surprising ways and even leaving a mark on popular culture.

One such moment took place in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, when a dispute between two chaat vendors five years ago went viral. It later became known as the famous ‘Battle of Baghpat.’

In February 2021, two rival chaat stalls in Baghpat got into a heated argument over attracting customers. The disagreement quickly turned physical, with people from both sides using sticks and iron rods in the middle of the street.

A bystander recorded the fight, and the video spread across Twitter (now X), Instagram, and WhatsApp within hours. People shared it widely, reacting with surprise, humour, and disbelief at the unusual scene. The video soon became one of India’s most talked-about viral clips of the year.

Authorities later stepped in and reportedly arrested eight people involved in the fight. There were no serious injuries reported, though some participants were slightly hurt.

In the middle of the crowd, one man immediately grabbed attention. Harendra Singh, dressed in a teal kurta and sporting bright orange-dyed hair, was seen joining the fight. His striking appearance and expressive reactions quickly drew the eyes of onlookers. People even compared him to Albert Einstein because of his hair and intense expressions, which is how he earned the nickname “Einstein Chacha.”

One user shared, “Einstein Chacha Who Fought in the Great Battle Of Baghpat”

Another compared him to a lion, “5 years to the greatest battle ever fought. The ultimate warrior is “Einstein Chacha” the very own Asiatic Lion.”

For many people, February 22 is now remembered for this viral clip that became part of India’s meme culture in 2021. As the ‘Battle of Baghpat’ turns five, social media is once again full of posts, memes, and edits celebrating Einstein Chacha.

One user shared, “Enlist famous battles in the World.. This #BattleOfBaghpat is mine”

Another added, “Fighters will come and go. Times will change. But one thing will remain eternal: the valour, commitment and the sheer papdi-chaat energy shown by the warriors of the great Battle of Baghpat.”

One more post read, “5th anniversary of the Batt#le of Baghpat. Salute to the warriors. Remembering Einstein Chacha #BattleofBaghpat”

And another noted, “Battle of Baghpat turns 5. Today is the anniversary of this famous chat fight.”

Each anniversary brings new posts and shares, keeping the memory alive. Fans continue to create edits and memes, adding dramatic music, fictional fights, or sci-fi effects.
