BAFTA Awards 2024: Prince William to attend event without Kate Middleton. Here's why

Prince William had attended the BAFTA Awards ceremony last year with Kate Middleton after a gap of two years.

Prince William will be attending BAFTA Awards ceremony on Monday but his wife and duchess Kate Middleton will give it a miss since she is still recovering from a serious abdominal surgery last month, Variety reported.

Prince William -- who is the president of the the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010 -- is expected to be present at the Royal Festival Hall on the banks of London’s River Thames for the event. He had attended the BAFTA Awards ceremony last year with Kate Middleton after a gap of two years. It was also when they witnessed a touching tribute to the prince’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was honored by Helen Mirren five months after her death.

Last month, Kate Middleton was admitted to hospitalised  for 10-days over an unspecified surgery. While she is recuperating at home in Windsor, the princess of Wales will not be returning to royal duties until April, the publication reported.

Meanwhile, Prince William's father King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer in January, and is currently undergoing treatment.

David Tennant to host BAFTA AwardsThis year, the event will be hosted by former Doctor Who star David Tennant.
"We want to have an evening that's a celebration and that won't make people feel uncomfortable and won't have people being roasted in any way, so it will hopefully be an evening of generosity and joy," he said.

Presenters at BAFTA Awards 2024 include David Beckham, Dua Lipa, Deepika Padikone, Hugh Grant, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Gillian Anderson and Andrew Scott.
