After publicly backing gig workers through a series of posts on X, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has taken his support a step further by stepping into their shoes to understand their challenges firsthand. In a move aimed at gaining on-ground insights, Chadha was seen donning a Blinkit delivery uniform and accompanying a delivery partner while fulfilling customer orders.
Sharing a brief teaser on X, Chadha wrote, “Away from boardrooms, at the grassroots. I lived their day. Stay tuned!” While the full video is yet to be released, clips circulating online show the Rajya Sabha MP riding pillion on a Blinkit delivery bike and visiting multiple homes to deliver grocery orders, mirroring a typical day in the life of a gig worker.
Delivery partners across India went on strike demanding basic dignity, fair pay, safety, predictable rules and social security. The response from the Platform was to call them "miscreants" and turn a labour demand into a law & order narrative. That is not just insulting, it is…— Raghav Chadha (@raghav_chadha) January 3, 2026
The exercise follows Chadha’s recent interactions with gig workers, during which he held discussions on long working hours, pay structures and lack of social security. He has repeatedly called for a stronger safety net, better working conditions and higher wages for delivery partners and app-based workers across India.
Chadha has also taken an indirect swipe at Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal amid the ongoing debate around gig work. After Goyal’s podcast appearance with YouTuber Raj Shamani went viral, Chadha criticised the company’s response to worker concerns, writing on X, “All that was needed was a dialogue with gig workers. Instead, there were paid tweets, personal attacks and a podcast.”
The exchange comes in the backdrop of a gig workers’ strike that drew attention towards the end of December. Responding to the protests at the time, Goyal argued that the system was not fundamentally unjust, stating that it continues to attract and retain a large workforce. “If a system were fundamentally unfair, it would not consistently attract and retain so many people who choose to work within it,” he said, cautioning against narratives driven by vested interests.
Goyal further defended the gig economy as one of India’s biggest organised job creators, suggesting its long-term impact would be visible when delivery partners’ children, supported by stable incomes and education, eventually enter the workforce and contribute to national growth.
However, the Zomato CEO also faced criticism for referring to protesting gig workers as “miscreants” in a separate post, a remark that sparked backlash online.
