High-end graphics processing units (GPU) manufacturer Nvidia is keen to working with more Indian businesses to tailor more country-specific artificial intelligence innovations and products, Vishal Dhupar, the MD, Asia-South of Nvidia said on March 18.

Dhupar said this at the Startup Mahakumbh event in New Delhi while talking about the company's multi-million dollar partnership with Yotta Data Services, where the Mumbai-based company has invested in the GPU manufacturer's 16,000 chips.

"We are working with multiple business houses. One which has been publicly now been announced is Yotta. They're bringing 16,000 GPUs. It's going to be the state of the art data center. It's exactly the same architecture, as we used for our own engineers. I physically saw the machines coming into the country last week. They will quickly get built up," Dhupar said in a conversation with Peak XV Partners' Rajan Anandan.

In that context, Dhupar said that the company will continue to partner with more Indian business houses. "We're going to also work with more business houses to bring it here and cater for the sensitivities of this country, helping you to innovate and build here so that you can maximize the disruption that is needed in our country..," he added.

The India MD of GPU manufacturing giant also, while pointing out the low rate of AI research in the country due to the lack of infrastructure, also recognised the Indian government's efforts to drive up AI infrastructure in the country.

"(AI research in) India today is approximately at sub 2%, approximately sub two per cent as compared to China and US combined, is closer to 58 59%. And if you really go back and figure out why the research in India is as low as what it is, and even if you go to the top AI researchers, we're talking about India's contribution to 2%. There's a direct correlation to that," Dhupar said. The contribution of AI research of those Indians not based in India was at 12 per cent, Dhupar said.

Lastly, Dhupar named Krutrim, Sarvam.ai and Immersio as his three most exciting AI startups from India.
