With a massive 262 million subscribers, T-Series is the world’s most popular YouTube channel. However, Jimmy Donaldson is giving a run for their money to India’s biggest music and movie studio. Donaldson — known as MrBeast on YouTube — is closing in on T-Series’s first place and currently has 252 million subscribers, according to a report by The Verge.
Perhaps feeling the heat from MrBeast, T-Series put out a video encouraging viewers on YouTube to subscribe to its channel. The video opens with the late founder Gulshan Kumar’s quote: ““I want to put India and my people at the top of the international platform. Come take my hand…may our dream become a reality.” The video is clearly directed towards evoking nationalism with the Indian flag appearing a few times and urges viewers to join the "community" and "family" and “make history together”.
Numbers reveal that MrBeast is certainly catching up with T-Series. According to a report by The Verge, in the last one month or so MrBeast has seen his subscribers grow by seven million. In the same time, T-Series saw its subscriber base grow by two million. The numbers are stacked more in favour of MrBeast if one looks at them over the last 12 months. While T-Series’ subscribers grew by 23 million, MrBeast has seen his numbers rise by a remarkable 105 million.
In November 2023, in a post on X, MrBeast noted that the rivalry with T-Series was heating up. “With the upcoming sub race with T-Series I just want to make clear I love my fans from India and this has nothing to do with countries, I just want to be #1 most subscribed haha,” he said in a post on X.
This won’t be the first time T-Series is involved in the subscriber race with an individual. Back in 2019, it was competing with PewDiePie but beat the YouTuber to become number one. T-Series’ reign has been going strong for the last four-and-a-half years but is facing heat from the world’s most subscribed ‘individual’ channel on YouTube.
