iPhone 16 leak: What we know so far

We’re still about seven months away from the launch of the 2024 iPhone 16 series but that hasn’t stopped the rumours and the leaks. Over the last few weeks, the buzz has centred around iOS 18 and how it’s likely to be the biggest update to the iPhone user experience. Recent reports by industry observers like Mark Gurman from Bloomberg and Jeff Pu, an analyst with Haitong International Securities have both suggested that AI is likely to dominate the iOS 18 update. Now the focus has shifted to the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro thanks to a new set of leaks around the camera module.

A revamped camera module?

Tipster Majin Bu has suggested that the iPhone 16 will feature a new vertical camera module, He shared renders a few days ago on a post on X (Formerly Twitter). In an earlier post on the same platform, he also shared renders for the iPhone 16 SE camera, suggesting that the new SE will feature a single camera instead of the dual camera system on the iPhone 16 models. This also fuels speculation that we could have more than four iPhone models launching in September (including an SE version) His renders for the iPhone 16 Pro camera design have drawn some strong reactions on the Internet.

New screen size?

Earlier in January, we saw the first renders of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro. MacRumours suggests that Apple plans to stretch the screen size to 6.3-inches for the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9-inches for the iPhone Pro Max to possibly accommodate the tetraprism telephoto camera that is likely to be available for the iPhone 16 Pro this year.

A new chip?

iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected feature a new A17 chip but MacRumours suggests it may not be say A17 Pro chip that’s in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.  A17 chip, but rumours suggest it won't be the same A17 Pro chip that's in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Jeff Pu, an analyst who covers companies within Apple’s supply chain suggests that all four iPhone 16 models could be kitted with A18 branded chips.
