Homegrown social app Chingari has clinched the 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge' in the ‘Social’ category.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge'. The challenged was initiated to promote existing homegrown apps. As part of the challenge, the government invited tech entrepreneurs from across the country to develop apps from eight different categories.
Now, the winners of the challenge have finally been announced, with Chingari winning the title in the ‘Social’ category. Chingari rose to fame in the past couple of months as the TikTok users in the country began looking for alternatives when the Chinese app was banned in India. The winners of the challenge will receive certificates and prize money. The winners for each category were chosen by users through votes.

The Koo and YouQuote apps were tied for the second position. Apart from the top three finalists, other popular apps in the social category, included Sharechat, Roposo, and Mitron, although none of them was able to make it to the top three spots. A number of these social apps have gained popularity in recent months, following India’s TikTok ban.
