During the earnings call for Q1 2024, Apple CEO Tim Cook promised AI-related announcements that would be detailed later this year. Cook also reiterated that Apple has invested substantially in AI.
According to MacRumors, Cook said that Apple continues to, "invest these and other technologies that will shape the future". He also told investors that Apple was, "excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year."

Previously Bloomberg had reported that Apple's iOS 18 would be the "biggest" software update in the company's history. Apple is reportedly developing Generative AI models for use with the virtual assistant Siri and across other apps in the Apple ecosystem like Messages.
Sources close to Bloomberg have said that Apple has seen what Microsoft and Google have done in the field of AI and has been trying to catch up since last year.
“There’s a lot of anxiety about this and it’s considered a pretty big miss internally,” the internal source told Bloomberg.

Supposedly, Apple has built an internal Large Language Model (LLM) codenamed Ajax and is currently testing it using an internal app called Apple GPT. Apple's senior vice presidents, John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi are spearheading the company's efforts in the field of AI.
Apple's development teams are not only looking at widespread integration within iOS but also in development looks like Xcode. According to the report, the teams are already exploring possibilities with apps such as Apple Music.
