With summer in full swing and heatwaves becoming more frequent, it's essential to take extra care of your mobile devices. High temperatures can cause significant damage to smartphones, impacting their performance and longevity. Here are five effective ways to protect your mobile from overheating during a heatwave.

Tips to protect your mobile from overheatingAvoid too much exposure to direct sunlight

One of the simplest yet most effective ways to prevent your mobile from overheating is to keep it out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause your phone to heat up quickly. Always try to store your phone in a shaded area, such as inside a bag or under a cover, when you are outdoors.

Limit intensive tasks

Running power-intensive applications like video games, GPS navigation, or streaming services can generate excessive heat. During a heatwave, limit the use of such apps to prevent your phone from overheating. Instead, try to use your device for simpler tasks like texting or calling, and avoid heavy multitasking.

Disable features you don't use too often

Features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS can drain your battery and cause your phone to heat up. If these features are not in use, turn them off to reduce the strain on your phone’s processor and battery. Additionally, consider switching your phone to aeroplane mode if you do not need to be connected to the network.

Use battery-saving mode

Most modern smartphones come with a battery-saving mode that reduces power consumption by limiting background processes and lowering screen brightness. Activating this mode can help keep your phone cooler by reducing the workload on its processor and battery.

Remove the phone case temporarily

Phone cases, especially thick or non-ventilated ones, can trap heat and prevent your device from cooling down properly. During extremely hot weather, consider removing the case to allow better air circulation around your phone. This can help in dissipating heat more effectively.

Some additional tips

Avoid leaving your phone in hot environments: Never leave your phone in a car on a hot day, as temperatures can rise rapidly inside vehicles.

Charge your phone in a cool place: Charging generates heat, so it’s best to do this in a cool environment.

Install monitoring apps: Some apps can monitor your phone’s temperature and manage resources to prevent overheating.
