State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a cautionary public notice alerting citizens to a growing number of fraudulent pages, handles, and individuals misusing the bank’s identity on social media and online platforms. The bank said these entities are falsely claiming association with SBI while promoting fake recruitment opportunities and guaranteed appointments.
In the notice, SBI stated that such activities are misleading and unlawful, urging people to remain vigilant and verify all communications linked to the bank.
Fake recruitment claims
SBI said it has observed unauthorised advertisements and messages circulating online, particularly related to jobs and recruitment assistance.
“It has come to the Bank’s notice that certain pages and handles are being operated in the name of our Bank without our consent,” SBI said in its public notice. “These individuals are falsely claiming to offer recruitment tips and guaranteed appointments under the guise of association with SBI.”
The bank clarified that these advertisements often use fake profiles along with SBI’s logo and branding to create a false sense of legitimacy and trust among job seekers.
SBI denies guaranteed hiring promises
The lender categorically rejected all claims related to assured recruitment or special access to jobs.
“SBI does not offer any recruitment tips or guaranteed appointments, nor do we authorise any person or entity to do so on our behalf,” the bank said.
It further warned that impersonating SBI employees or misrepresenting oneself as a current or former staff member on any platform is a punishable offence under Indian law.
Additionally, SBI has advised people not to engage with unauthorised advertisements or individuals claiming links to the bank. It asked citizens to verify any communication purportedly from SBI through its official website or by visiting the nearest SBI branch.
“Members of the public are advised to exercise utmost caution and not fall prey to misleading advertisements or fraudulent claims,” the notice said.
The bank also encouraged reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities as well as directly to SBI so that appropriate action can be taken.
No liability for losses from fake claims
SBI made it clear that anyone corresponding with such unauthorised agencies or individuals would do so at their own risk.
“SBI shall not be responsible for any losses or consequences that customers or the general public may incur while relying on such unauthorised claims or advertisements,” the bank stated.
The cautionary notice comes amid rising online impersonation scams targeting job seekers and users through trusted brand identities on social media platforms.
