"Some Japanese companies have also indicated that they would be interested in financing UMPPs if we could have some portion of tariff indexed to a basket of currencies or a particular currency, which could mean much larger financing from international sources at a lower rate of interest with longer tenure and cheaper power," the minister said
Top sources have told CNBC-TV18 that the government is looking to set up ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) which have capacity of 4000 MW at sites where there are inefficient or old plants – for more than 25-30 years.
The overall capacity utilisation of the company is hovering around 60-65 percent.
"Tata Steel India gets 40 percent of its coking coal needs through captive coal mines; however, all these coal mines (mainly in West Bokaro and Jharia regions) were allocated pre-1993 while JSW has no captive coal or iron ore mines in India and hence is not impacted," said Goldman Sachs.
The Supreme Court observed that the issue of de-allocation will need further hearing, but barred UMPPs from exploiting captive mines.
Quant Capital's Abhineet Anand believes the valuations for BHEL at current market price look quite expensive. He expects FY14 sales to decline by 22 percent YoY and margins drop to 15 percent from 18 percent previously.
