Presenting the state budget for 2024-25, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said a sum of Rs 650 crore has been allocated for providing free sweaters, shoes and socks and Rs 350 crore for school bags for over 2 crore students studying in class 1 to 8 in government schools.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the play and activity-based learning-teaching materials called Jaadui Pitara in 13 languages in February.
The framework which is being developed on the lines of new National Education Policy (NEP) suggests that two important methods of assessment that are appropriate for the foundational stage are observations of the child and analysing artefacts that the child has produced as part of their learning experience.
"This is a pre-draft of the NCF-SE, which still requires several rounds of discussion within the National Steering Committee. Feedback from diverse stakeholders will further help NSC to look critically into different modalities and approaches that this framework is proposing," the ministry said in a statement.
The structure of classes 9 and 10 would also significantly change once the suggestions, which are being developed by a 12-member steering committee led by former ISRO chairperson K Kasturirangan, are implemented with pupils needing to clear eight papers.
The Central government, in response to a petition seeking a common syllabus and curriculum in schools, said that under the NEP, the national framework will be made available in all regional languages and will be based on principles of the policy, frontline curriculum needs, deliberations with stakeholders including State governments, ministries, and expert bodies and that a National Steering Committee for its development has already been formed.
