    • Death toll rises to 70 in Gujarat due to rains, flooding

      "Around 70 people died due to heavy rains," Gujarat state health minister and spokesperson Nitin Patel said. According to figures provided by the Gujarat state emergency control room, 26 people died in Amreli, which is the worst hit district, while five deaths each have been reported in Bharuch, Jamnagar, Kutch and Rajkot districts.

      CNBC-TV18's Ronojoy Bannerjee reports, quoting sources, that two weeks after Maruti Suzuki inked an agreement with the Gujarat government for 700 acres, the company has plans to acquire more land in the state.

    • Essar Oil down 15% on court order to pay Rs 6,309 cr tax

      Supreme Court (SC) said that Essar Oil is not eligible for sales tax benefit. The company has to pay sales tax to the Gujarat State Government of approximately Rs 6,300 crore. However, Essar Energy stock was down 27% in London, reports CNBC-TV18.
