The Tech Weekender: OnePlus Nord early sale, iPhone 11 in India, 5 Galaxy devices at Unpacked 2020 and more

In case you missed them, here are the biggest developments from the world of tech from the week ending July 24.

OnePlus has re-entered the mid-range smartphone segment with the launch of OnePlus Nord. The Nord packs specs like a 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 765G 5G chipset with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 4115 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T, and a 48MP quad-camera setup. For selfies, there is a 32MP + 8MP front camera setup. While the smartphone goes on sale starting August 4, users who wish to get early access to the OnePlus Nord can register for the pop-up sale till July 26. OnePlus Red Cable members will be able to get a chance to buy the Nord on July 27 and 28, whereas regular customers can try to buy the Nord on July 29.  More details here .

Apple has reportedly begun making its iPhone 11 phones at Foxconn’s plant in Chennai, marking the first time the electronics giant has manufactured the device in India. Apple is also considering making iPhone SE units at the Wistron plant near Bengaluru. Manufacturing the phones in India saves Apple 22 percent on import duty. However, since some of the units sold in India are also being imported from China, the company has refrained from reducing the price of the device immediately. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked all websites and portals to conduct a security audit amid the rise in threats of cyber-attacks by Chinese hackers. DoT’s circular also states that these websites and portals should upgrade the security of systems used by officials in the ministry. It had previously asked the websites and portals under it to conduct a security audit by November 2019. The latest reminder also states that websites that do not have a valid security certificate will need to conduct an audit on an immediate basis.  More details here .

OPPO has confirmed the Reno4 Pro launch date in India. The new Reno smartphone will launch on July 31 with some tweaked specs as compared to the Chinese variant. The company has confirmed that the Reno4 Pro will feature a 3D curved screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, as Moneycontrol exclusively reported. Our sources also informed us that the Reno4 Pro will feature a 48MP quad-camera setup. The company will also launch its OPPO Watch alongside the Reno4 Pro in India.  More details here .

Microsoft officials, too, have been teasing the Surface Duo on social media platforms.
