Worli Police have arrested Rajendra Singh Bidawat, who was inside the car, and Rajesh Shah, the father of the absconding suspect Mihir Shah in the late evening hours on Sunday. Six police teams have been formed to locate Mihir Shah, according to Worli Police, reported ANI.
Earlier, the police recovered and confiscated the BMW car - at the centre of a tragic hit-and-run case in which a woman lost her life in Mumbai’s Worli. The bike-borne couple was hit early this morning by a BMW car that was allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah.
Media reports also quote police saying the 24-year-old was in an inebriated state when the car ramped into the scooter. The police have registered a case against two people who were present in the car when the tragedy unfolded.
The man, Pradeep Nakhava, lost control of the bike upon impact. He managed to jump to safety, but his wife, Kaveri Nakhava, who was carrying a heavy load, was unable to do so and was crushed by the vehicle. The car was allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah.
Kaveri Nakhava was rushed to Nair Hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
According to a report by News18, Worli Police have detained the car owner, Rajesh Shah, a local Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader in Palghar. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to confirm the identity of the driver during the accident. The accident reportedly occurred around 5:30 am near Atria Mall in the Koliwada area of Worli.
The vehicle, owned by a Palghar-based political leader, had his son and a driver inside. After hitting the couple's scooter, Kaveri was dragged for 100 meters on the car's bonnet before being flung onto the road. Despite locals rushing her to Nair Hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her husband, who managed to jump off the bonnet, is currently undergoing treatment.
Worli Police have registered a case against the two occupants of the BMW. The car's number plate was removed when it was brought to the police station. One person has been detained, and the car has been seized. The zonal DCP mentioned that no arrests have been made yet, but the process is underway.
On May 19, two IT professionals were killed in Pune's Kalyani Nagar after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche car allegedly driven by a juvenile in an inebriated condition.
The case sparked a massive uproar across the country after the Juvenile Justice Board member L N Danwade granted bail to the accused on very moderate terms -- which included writing a 300-word essay on road safety.
