The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Mamata Banerjee government as the police stopped a group of protestors from raising slogans against Pakistan or burning the Pakistani flag in Ashoknagar citing "sensitive area".
Sharing a video of X where cops can be seen stopping protestors from raising slogans, Bengal BJP said, "In Ashoknagar, West Bengal, raising slogans against Pakistan or burning the Pakistani flag is banned — because Mamata Banerjee’s police say it’s a “sensitive area.” Sensitive for whom? Pakistan or its sympathizers? This is not governance — this is treachery dressed up as secularism."

The incident occurred in Ashoknagar in West Bengal. In the video, a police officer was heard saying, “This is a sensitive area. You cannot do these here. This is a sensitive area”. The proestors gathered in the area got into a heated confrontation with the cops. A man, who was present there, said, “Indian police wants to stop burning of Pakistan flag”
BJP leader Amit Malviya questioned "Whose sentiments are they trying to protect?"
In a post on X, Malviya said, "Ashoknagar in West Bengal is supposedly a sensitive area. Therefore, raising slogans against Pakistan or burning the Pakistani flag is not allowed there! This is the directive being enforced by Mamata Banerjee’s police. What kind of sensitivity is this? Whose sentiments are they trying to protect?"
The protestors were raising anti-Pakistan slogans in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack where terrorists gunned down 26 civilians, mostly tourists, in the Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ghastly attack triggered nationwide anger and protests from citizens who demanded justice.
