Affidavits filed by the 27 outgoing Maharashtra ministers have revealed that several saw a substantial jump in their assets, with Aditi Tatkare and Sanjay Rathod becoming wealthier by 772 percent and 220 percent over the past five years, respectively.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s wealth also grew exceptionally at 187 percent, increasing from Rs 7.81 crore to Rs 22.4 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, too, reported growth in assets, although relatively at a far more modest rate of 44 percent. Devendra Fadnavis’ assets grew 56 percent in the past five years.
As per the affidavits, the Maharashtra CM and his deputies amassed wealth during this period by means of land and property acquisitions, The Times of India reported.
As for Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, who reported a 772 percent rise in her net assets, from Rs 39 lakh in 2019 to Rs 3.4 crore in 2024, land acquisition, including the purchase of more than 12 acres of agricultural land valued at Rs 1 crore led to the increase, alongside the acquisition of a plot of non-agricultural land spanning 75,827 square ft, worth Rs 21 lakh, The Economic Times reported.
Similarly, Minister for Soil and Water Conservation Sanjay Rathod, whose assets spiked 220 percent during the same period, disclosed real estate acquisitions including a 37,452-sq ft commercial property purchased by his wife in Nagpur. The minister also bought a flat in the Prabhadevi area od Mumbai last year for Rs 13 crore.
Other Maharashtra ministers who became richer by crores over the past five years are Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sanjay Bansode, whose wealth increased 144 percent from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore, and Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan, whose net worth spiked 117 percent from Rs 7 crore to Rs 15.5 crore.
