The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is set to bring in two ordinances to ensure stringent action in incidents of spitting in food among other unsanitary practices.
After making it mandatory for food stalls to display the names of their owners, the government is set to bring ‘Prevention of Pseudo and Anti-Harmony Activities and Prohibition of Spitting Ordinance 2024’ and ‘UP Prevention of Contamination in Food (Consumer Right to Know) Ordinance 2024’ which will have strict penalties for those found tampering with food, including spitting or other unsanitary practices.
The ordinances are expected to be rolled out soon, ensuring greater transparency for consumers regarding the preparation and handling of their food.
The CM held a meeting with Additional Chief Secretary Home Deepak Kumar, Ashish Singh (Home Department), Sanjeev Gupta (Home Secretary DGP) along with other officials concerned late on October 15, news agency ANI reported.
Earlier on October 13, CM Yogi held a ‘Janta Darbar’ at the Gorakhnath temple during which he listened to the grievances of the people and gave instructions to the officials to resolve their problems.
Last month, a shopkeeper was thrashed by angry locals in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad for allegedly serving fruit juices mixed with urine to customers. In another instance, a viral video from Saharanpur showed a teenager spitting on rotis. This resulted in the arrest of the owner of the establishment.
