The Delhi Police on Monday arrested Jitendra Yadav from Gwalior in connection with the Youth Congress protest that disrupted the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to five.
Police said efforts are ongoing to trace other individuals involved in the incident. Earlier, another Youth Congress protester had been detained as part of the investigation.
According to investigators, T-shirts and posters used during the demonstration were recovered from a vehicle linked to Indian Youth Congress leader Krishna Hari. The material allegedly displayed images of Narendra Modi and Donald Trump, along with slogans targeting the government and the India US trade deal.
On Saturday, a court in Patiala remanded four accused to five days of police custody. The individuals, identified as Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar and Narasimha Yadav, were booked under provisions including BNS Section 121 for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty and Section 61(2) relating to criminal conspiracy. These offences carry punishment of more than three years.
While hearing the matter, the magistrate made strong observations on the nature of the protest. “Such conduct palpably transcends the ambit of legitimate dissent, metamorphosing into a blatant assault on public order. It imperils not merely the event's sanctity but also the Republic's diplomatic image before foreign stakeholders, rendering it wholly unprotected by constitutional safeguards,” the court said. The protest was also described as a “blatant assault on public order.”
The incident occurred inside the exhibition hall during the AI Impact Summit 2026, which had drawn global technology leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs. Police said the accused were involved in a scuffle with security personnel while staging the ‘shirtless’ protest.
