Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi at 6 pm on Friday to address party workers, as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) edges toward a decisive victory in Bihar following the two-phase assembly elections on November 6 and 11.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) trends, the NDA is leading decisively in the Bihar Assembly elections. The BJP is ahead in 90 seats, JD(U) in 81, and RJD in 28, while LJP(RV) has 21 seats. Other parties, including AIMIM (5), INC (4), RSHTLKM (4), and various others (10) are also in the fray, with counting continuing across the state.

In the 11th round of counting out of 26 for the Siwan Assembly constituency, BJP candidate Mangal Pandey is leading with 43,520 votes, a gain of 10,772 votes since the previous round. His nearest rival, RJD’s Awadh Bihari Choudhary, trails with 32,748 votes, down by 10,772 votes.

According to the Election Commission of India, BJP candidate Mangal Pandey is leading in the Siwan Assembly seat with 7,832 votes, showing an increase of 1,071 votes in the early trends. Counting is underway, and Pandey is currently ahead of RJD’s sitting MLA Awadh Bihari Choudhary as the voters’ verdict unfolds.

As early trends show NDA in the lead, JD(U) National Working President and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha expressed confidence in a decisive victory. He said the results align with expectations and reflected feedback from the ground, praising Nitish Kumar’s connection with the people. Jha criticised Mahagathbandhan leaders for distributing portfolios and planning the oath before the results, saying the people ultimately decide.

He dismissed claims of “Vote Chori Yatra” as a false narrative that voters saw through during campaigning. Commenting on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jha said democracy cannot work through force and urged introspection on their performance. He added that despite Nitish Kumar’s long tenure, his popularity continues to grow, signalling strong public support for the NDA.

According to early Election Commission trends, the BJP is currently leading with 44 seats, closely followed by the JD(U) with 43 seats, indicating a tight race between the NDA partners. The RJD stands at 24, while LJPRV has secured leads in 12 constituencies. Among the other parties, the Congress is ahead in 6 seats, HAMS in 3, and VSIP in 1, as counting continues across Bihar.

According to the Election Commission of India, the Siwan Assembly constituency recorded an estimated voter turnout of 59.7% in the 2025 Bihar elections. In comparison, the turnout stood at 54.43% in 2020, 56.17% in 2015, and 51.41% in the 2010 polls. These figures show a steady rise in participation over the years.

The Siwan Assembly constituency had a total of 3,17,805 registered voters in the 2025 election, comprising 1,67,679 male, 1,50,119 female, and 7 third-gender voters. In comparison, the 2020 electoral roll listed 3,11,523 voters, including 1,63,489 male, 1,48,028 female, and 6 third-gender electors.

Looking back at previous years, the constituency had 2,80,805 voters in the 2015 polls, of whom 1,51,835 were male, 1,28,967 female, and 185 third-gender. In the 2010 Assembly election, the total number of registered voters stood at 2,27,240, consisting of 1,24,943 male, 1,02,297 female, and 96 third-gender electors.

Counting of votes for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has begun, with results set to determine the outcome in all 243 constituencies across 38 districts. The high-stakes counting process will reveal the electoral fate of candidates from major alliances and regional parties contesting the two-phase polls.

Simultaneously, counting has also commenced for Assembly by-elections in eight constituencies spread across six states and one Union Territory, adding to the political significance of the day. Authorities have begun tallying postal ballots first, followed by EVM votes. Results are expected to firm up through the day as early trends begin to emerge.

In the 2020 election, RJD’s Awadh Bihari Chaudhary won the seat by a narrow margin of 1,973 votes against BJP’s Om Prakash Yadav. Siwan, historically an RJD stronghold once shaped by the political influence of Mohammad Shahabuddin, is set for another fierce contest between the NDA and INDIA bloc this time. Meanwhile, in Daraundha, BJP’s Karnjeet Singh, also known as Vyas Singh, secured victory in 2020 by defeating CPI-ML’s Amarnath Yadav with a margin of 11,320 votes.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Awadh Bihari Choudhary won the seat with a margin of 1,973 votes (1.17%). He polled 76,785 votes with a vote share of 45.3%. He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Om Prakash Yadav, who got 74,812 votes (44.13%). Independent candidate Vindo Kumar Srivastava stood third with 2,582 votes (1.52%).

In the 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vyas Deo Prasad won the seat with a margin of 3,534 votes (2.32%). He polled 55,156 votes with a vote share of 35.02 %. Janata Dal United (JDU) candidate Bablu Prasad got 51,622  votes (32.78 %) and was the runner-up. Independent candidate Awadh Bihari Choudhary stood third with  284,50 votes (18.06%).

Awadh Bihari Choudhary is the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate from the Siwan (General) Assembly constituency for the 2025 Bihar elections. According to his election affidavit, he is 78 years old. A five-term MLA from Siwan, Choudhary has represented the seat under both the Janata Dal and the RJD. One of the senior-most leaders in the party, he has also previously served as Bihar’s Education Minister during the Rabri Devi-led government.

Bihar’s Siwan district, the birthplace of India’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, is once again witnessing an intense electoral battle as sitting RJD MLA Awadh Bihari Choudhary faces a strong challenge from state Health Minister Mangal Pandey.
