In the Pune Cantonment assembly constituency, the fight will be between sitting MLA Sunil Kamble of the BJP against Ramesh Bagwe of Congress.

Pune Cantonment assembly seat is part of the Pune Lok Sabha constituency. Located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, the seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Established in 1817 for the accommodation of military troops, the cantonment area grew both in size and strength accommodating fresh troops, regiments, battalions, including cavalry which gradually settled in the area later.

Apart from housing several military establishments, the area is renowned for its shopping areas, particularly MG Road and East Street. The headquarters of the Southern Command of the Indian Army is in Pune Cantonment.

Current MLA

In the 2019 assembly elections, Sunil Kamble of the BJP won the Pune Cantonment seat. Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Kamble promised setting up of a cancer hospital, setting up of free dispensaries, completion of Lahuji Vastad memorial, economic empowerment of women, creation of a modern sports complex and more, according to reports.

In the Pune Cantonment assembly constituency, the fight will be between sitting MLA Sunil Kamble of the BJP against Ramesh Bagwe of Congress. The seat has been considered favourable to Congress for several decades. Bagwe was elected as a member of the state legislature in 2004 and 2009 and was minister of state for home from 2009 to 2010. However, the trend changed in the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections.

According to the Election Commission, the constituency has 8647172 registered voters, including 4491068 male voters, 4155330 female voters, and 774 third gender voters.

In the 2019 elections, BJP candidate Sunil Kamble of the BJP won the seat by a margin of 52,160 votes. His closest competitor was Ramesh Anandarao Bagwe from the Congress, who secured 47,148 votes. In the 2014 elections, Dilip Kamble, also from the BJP, was elected as the MLA from this constituency.

Unlike the two-phase Assembly elections in Jharkhand, state polls in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase for all 288 seats, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced. The Pune Cantonment constituency will go to polls on November 20. Counting of votes will be held on November 3
