Pro-Khalistan supporters on Thursday attempted to heckle External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar as he was leaving in a car after attending an event at the Chatham House think tank in London.

A social media video shows a man approaching Jaishankar’s car and tearing the Tricolour. Several Khalistani supporters protested outside the venue where Jaishankar participated in a discussion.

Another video has emerged depicting Khalistani extremists protesting outside the venue where Jaishankar was engaged in discussions. The protesters can be seen waving flags and shouting pro-Khalistani slogans.

Denouncing the "misuse of democratic freedoms" by separatist elements, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK… We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements.”

He added that India expects the UK government to live up to their diplomatic obligations.

Jaishankar is on an official visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland from March 4 to 9 to further strengthen India’s diplomatic ties with both nations.
