At least seven people were injured on Tuesday after an explosion on a railway track derailed four four bogies of the Jaffar Express in Sultan Kot, a location between Shikarpur and Jacobabad in Pakistan – marking the latest in a series of attacks on the train in the last few months.
Pakistan railways minister Hanif Abbasi blamed India for the series of attacks on the Jaffar Express, as he suggested foreign involvement, according to a report by Pakistan-based Dawn. He insisted that railway services would not be suspended in the wake of the incident.
Speaking to the outlet, Shikarpur's deputy commissioner Shakeel Ahmed Abro had said that the blast had occurred at around 8:15 am. He said there were no fatalities, and the seven injured passengers were promptly transported to Shikarpur Civil Hospital.
According to the official, the Jaffar Express train was bound for Quetta via Jacobabad.
The blast on Tuesday is reportedly the seventh attack on the Jaffar Express in 2025, the first and deadliest occurring in March when militants hijacked the train and killed 21 passengers. In the months since, it has faced at least six attacks.
In conversation with Dawn, federal minister for railways Hanif Abbasi blamed India for the repeated attacks on Jaffar Express. “The terrorists targeting Jaffar Express again and again are, in fact, proxies of India that is not ready to digest and bear its defeat it faced during operation Bunyan Al Marsoos,” he said.
“These incidents are cowardly act of India that is still feeling the pain of wounds it received during the May war,” he added.
The train will continue operating as per routine, as we will never afraid of such attacks, he said.
This isn’t the first time that Pakistan has made such allegations against India. In March after the Jaffar Express hijacking incident, Pakistan claimed that it was carried out by “terrorists” who were communicating with “handlers in Afghanistan”, while alleging that India was the mastermind behind it.
Denying the charges, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We reject the baseless accusations made by Pakistan. The whole world knows where the epicentre of global terrorism is. Pakistan should look within itself instead of blaming others for its internal problems and failures.”
