Nitin Nabin is set to be elected as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party after emerging as the sole nominee for the post once the nomination and withdrawal process concluded on Monday, according to the party’s national returning officer for Sangathan Parv, Dr K Laxman.
Nabin formally filed his nomination earlier in the day at the BJP headquarters, where the process was attended by senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari and several BJP chief ministers.
Announcing the outcome of the nomination process, Laxman said that only one name, that of Nitin Nabin, was proposed for the post of BJP national president after the withdrawal window closed. “In my capacity as National Returning Officer, Sangathan Parv, Bharatiya Janata Party, I hereby announce that only one name, that of Shri Nitin Nabin, has been proposed for the post of National President of Bharatiya Janata Party,” he said in a press statement.
According to the BJP, the nomination process was conducted between 2 pm and 4 pm on January 19, following which scrutiny was carried out. In all, 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in support of Nabin, all of which were found to be valid and in the required format, Laxman said.
The election process was initiated after the BJP completed the election of 30 state presidents out of 36 states, surpassing the minimum requirement of 50 per cent. The schedule for the national president’s election was notified on January 16, along with the publication of the electoral roll.
Nabin, 45, was appointed national working president of the BJP on December 14, 2025. He is now set to succeed JP Nadda as the party’s 12th national president and will become the youngest person to hold the post in the BJP’s history. His candidature has been backed by the party’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Nitin Nabin is scheduled to formally take charge as BJP national president on January 20, according to party sources.
