Several high-profile constituencies will be in focus as Maharashtra goes to polls on November 20. Mumbadevi in Mumbai will be one of them.

Mumbadevi (constituency number 186) is one of the 36 constituencies located in Mumbai. The constituency has historically been dominated by BJP and Congress, with the grand old party holding it for the last three assembly polls.

The seat is currently held by Congress MLA Amin Patel.

It has a large chunk of Muslim voters, who are likely to play a major role in the coming elections as well. In 2024, Amin is facing a stiff challenge from fashion designer-turned-politician Shaina NC - who joined Shiv Sena from BJP and is now contesting as a Mahayuti candidate.

About Mumbadevi

Mumbadevi, reshaped in 2009 with areas like Umarkhadi, Khetwadi, and Nagpada added, is a diverse constituency. Although over half the population is Muslim, it is known as "mini-India" due to its mix of communities, including Parsis. Key localities here include Bhendi Bazaar, Dongri, Nagpada, Kamathipura and parts of Mohammad Ali Road. Despite being named after the Mumbadevi temple, the temple itself is in the neighboring Colaba constituency. The area is home to Sufi shrines like Abdul Rehman Shah Baba Dargah and the Siddi community's dargah, alongside the famous Gol Deval temple.
