A law student was found dead in her hostel room in Lucknow on Saturday night after she attended a client conselling event held at her university guest house.
Anika Rastogi, 19, was the daughter of a senior IPS officer deputed with the National Investigation Agency (NIA). She was a third-year BA-LLB (Hons) student at the Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University in Lucknow.
According to university authorities, she was fine until 9.30 pm when she returned to her hostel room after attending a client counselling event at the university guest house on Saturday evening.
Reports in media said her roommate reached the hostel and found the room locked from inside at 10 pm. The door was broken by the hostel staff as she didn't respond to her friend's call.
Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Lucknow said in a statement: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely demise of Ms. Anika Rastogi, a third-year BA LLB (Hons) student, who passed away last night around 10 pm due to cardiac arrest. The entire RML family is mourning her untimely demise. The university stands with her family of Anika Rastogi in this hour of grief. Our condolences and prayers are with her family."
The victim's family has not filed any report yet and further investigations will proceed as per the finding of the postmortem report.
