Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on August 20 ordered setting up of a National Task Force to look into the safety of healthcare staff in hospitals.
An apex court bench led by CJI Chandrachud, with justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra was convened to hear a priority case regarding the rape and murder of a postgraduate medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

"We are setting up a national task force which will have doctors from diverse backgrounds who will suggest modalities to be followed all across India so that safety conditions of work is there and young or middle-aged doctors are safe in their work environment," CJI Chandrachud said.

The Calcutta High Court had earlier transferred the investigation to the CBI. A polygraph test on accused Sanjay Roy is expected to be conducted today.
The case has triggered widespread protests by doctors calling for justice and improved safety measures in medical facilities.
