The cold wave continues to grip Delhi, as it was engulfed by dense fog on Tuesday. The IMD has issued an 'orange' alert for Delhi, warning of "very dense fog" and smog.
The temperature dipped sharply and is expected to drop to 7 degrees Celsius today, whereas the maximum would remain at 19 degrees Celsius, as per the IMD. The cold is accompanied by reduced visibility, leading to already poor air quality and delays in flights and trains.
The IMD has also predicted light rain in the national capital on January 15 and 16, with a yellow alert issued for tomorrow (January 15).
Beyond Delhi, the entire north India is grappling with an intense cold wave and dense fog this winter season. According to IMD, conditions of 'dense' to 'very dense fog' are likely to persist during the night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab until January 15.
Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 178 today, which indicates Moderate.
