A young military couple, an Indian Air Force (IAF) flight lieutenant and his army captain wife, allegedly died by suicide on the same day but in different cities, the Times of India reported on October 17.
Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep, 32, was posted at the Kheria Air Force Station in Agra. His wife, Captain Renu Tanwar, was stationed at the military hospital in the same city.
Captain Tanwar’s body was found first, in the officers' mess of the Delhi Cantonment on October 15 morning. She was in the city for her mother's treatment, the report said.
Deep, who was from Nalanda in Bihar, was found dead by staff who broke the door of his quarters in Agra after he didn't wake up late into the morning, the report cited local police as saying.
Police in Delhi recovered a suicide note in which Tanwar expressed her wish to be cremated alongside her husband.
"Her (Tanwar’s) mother and brother were at AIIMS when she died by suicide. We later learned about her husband's death. The couple had a love marriage," the report quoted a Delhi Police officer as saying.
No suicide note was found in Deep’s quarter. He had shown no signs of distress the night before as he cracked jokes with his colleagues and staff at dinner, the Agra Police said.
A post mortem examination revealed asphyxiation as the cause of Deep’s death, the report said.
The couple’s families would be able to shed more light on the deaths, police said.
