In a horrific incident from Hyderabad, a 26-year-old woman was burnt alive by her husband inside their rented apartment. The incident took place in Tilak Nagar on Wednesday.
Chityala Triveni, the victim, was a hotel worker and succumbed to her burns at Gandhi hospital around 4 am, The Times of India reported. Her husband, 32-year-old K Venkatesh, was arrested on Thursday.
Triveni's father said that the couple had moved from their village to Hyderabad five years ago and had been living in the house that she was killed in for the past one year. They stayed with their two children, aged eight and six.
The family has alleged that Venkatesh had been accusing Chityala of infidelity and was also harassing her for several years. On Wednesday, at around 12:30 am, a neighbour, while returning from work, noticed flames inside Venkatesh's house, after which, he alerted other neighbours.
The neighbour, Madhu, then went to the room and saw that the victim was engulfed in flames. The neighbours rushed the victim to the hospital, where she died while she was being treated.
Initial investigation found that the couple's son, Naresh, has confirmed that his father showed him a bottle full of petrol and took him out. He then gave the son a samosa andtold him "your mother will die today."
The husband then poured petrol on the victim and set her on fire. Their daughter ran out of the room after the incident took place. "The girl woke up hearing her mother scream and her father run out. She also ran out of the house. She did not sustain any injuries," the police said.
The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem on Thursday. The accused will be produced before the court for remand on Friday, according to the report by The Times of India.
