Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in as Maharashtra's chief minister on Thursday at Mumbai's Azad Maidan. His appointment follows a unanimous decision by the BJP legislative party.

At the legislature party meeting held in Vidhan Bhawan on Wednesday, former Gujarat CM and BJP’s central observer Vijay Rupani announced that Fadnavis (54) has been unanimously elected the BJP legislature party leader.

The development ends days of political uncertainty and negotiations among alliance partners.

A look at Devendra Fadnavis’ net worth

In his election affidavit in October 2024 ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, Devendra Fadnavis disclosed movable and immovable assets amounting to Rs 13.27 crore.

Fadnavis, a two-time former chief minister, reported a total income of Rs 79.3 lakh in 2023-24, marking a decrease from the previous year’s income of Rs 92.48 lakh.

He declared movable assets of Rs 56.07 lakh in his name, Rs 6.96 crore in his wife Amruta Fadnavis' name as well as Rs 10.22 lakh in his daughter's name. The senior BJP leader has Rs 23,500 cash in hand while his wife has Rs 10,000, according to the poll affidavit.

His deposits in bank accounts, including term deposits and deposits in financial institutions, NBFCs and cooperative societies, is Rs 2.28 lakh while that of his wife stands at Rs 1.43 lakh.

Fadnavis has not invested in bonds, debentures, shares and mutual funds but has invested Rs 20.70 lakh in NSS, postal savings, insurance policies and financial instruments. His wife has invested Rs 5.62 crore in bonds, debentures, shares and mutual funds, the affidavit showed.

He had declared that he has 450 grams gold ornaments worth Rs 32.85 lakh while this figure is Rs 65.7 lakh (900 grams) for his wife.

In terms of real estate, Fadnavis declared immovable assets of Rs 4,69 crore in his name, including agricultural land in Chandrapur, residential building in Dharampeth in Nagpur and several other properties and Rs 95.29 lakh in the name of his wife.

The affidavit shows that Fadnavis has no loans from banks or financial institutions but owes his wife Rs 62 lakh.

Fadnavis thanked the BJP legislators for reposing trust in him, adding that the thumping victory of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the November 20 assembly elections was due to the mantra of “Ek hai toh safe hai” given by PM Modi.

In the recent Maharashtra polls, BJP secured a remarkable success bagging 132 out of the 288 assembly seats in the state, marking its best performance in the state so far. Together with its allies -- the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar's NCP, the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition has a commanding majority of 230 seats.
