  • Goyal says agreement will not hurt domestic producers and makes India proud

Speaking on the India-US trade deal amid intense sloganeering in Lok Sabha, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that both nations will safeguard its interests will coming out with the final deal.

Goyal has assured that India will not compromise on the interests of its agriculture and dairy sectors in the recently announced trade deal with the United States. Addressing concerns over the pact, the minister emphasised that farmers’ interests remain fully protected and sensitive sectors will not be diluted.

“The deal will open major opportunities for labour-intensive industries such as textiles, apparel, leather and gems and jewellery, while giving India access to advanced technology and innovation,” he added. Goyal described the agreement as one that will make every Indian proud without hurting domestic producers.

Goyal said, “Both sides will want to move forward while keeping their respective economies in mind and safeguarding their own interests. India has been successful in protecting the interests of its agriculture and dairy sectors.”

According to Goyal, the new trade deal will create avenues for Indian industries to expand while safeguarding domestic interests. He highlighted opportunities for labour-intensive sectors and the potential for collaboration in technology and innovation as key benefits of the agreement.

Addressing the press yesterday, Goyal said India had secured the “best possible” trade deal with the United States under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, while sharply attacking the Opposition, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, for creating disruptions in the Lok Sabha during the debate.

“We all know that the Prime Minister, leveraging his friendly relationship and close ties with President Trump, has finalised a trade deal with the United States of America that is the best deal India has received compared to all our neighbours, surrounding countries, and competing economies. This is a great deal for all of us,” Goyal said during the presser yesterday.
