  • Murder linked to BLO's affair with victim's wife, say police
  • Victim's remains found in canal, protests erupt demanding justice

A booth-level officer (BLO) and his associate have been taken into custody for allegedly killing a man in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, with investigators pointing to an extramarital relationship as the motive.

Police said Rizwan Hasan Mondal, the BLO, was involved with the wife of 30-year-old Nasir Ali. As per the initial probe, he contacted Ali on Monday evening, calling him to a secluded location on the pretext of matters linked to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state.

According to the initial investigation, the accused was in a relationship with the wife of deceased and called him under the pretext of discussing SIR.

Officers said Ali was murdered after he arrived at the spot. His remains were later disposed of in a canal in Baduria. The body parts were recovered on Friday from three separate locations in the water body.

"Preliminary investigation found that Mondal had an extramarital relationship with Ali's wife. He had asked the deceased to meet him at a deserted place late on Monday evening on the pretext of discussing some issues pertaining to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal," the police officer told PTI.

The family had approached the police a day after Ali went missing, filing a complaint on Tuesday. Investigators began examining call records and tracking conversations that led them to Mondal. Following questioning, he was arrested on charges of killing Ali and disposing of the body.

His accomplice, Sagar Gyne, was also apprehended. Police alleged that he helped in carrying out the murder, cutting up the corpse, and dumping the remains.

The incident sparked anger among residents, who blocked a road for about thirty minutes, demanding justice. Authorities later convinced the protesters to withdraw the blockade.

In a separate development earlier in the day, a man and a woman were discovered inside a parked vehicle in Noida with gunshot injuries to their heads. A firearm was recovered from the man, and preliminary reports suggested a case of murder-suicide in which the man allegedly shot the woman before turning the weapon on himself.
